Following the successful test of our new AV equipment, we are pleased to announce that our first public film screening will be at 7pm (prompt!) on March 24th at the Hall: A Star is Born – the latest version staring Lady Gaga, with musical BAFTA and OSCAR awards – NB, this film is Classified 15.
There are no advanced ticket sales for this screening – payment will be on the door (£3 each) on a first-come-first-admitted basis – come early to ensure entry! Doors will open at 6.15pm; refreshments will be available and over-18s are welcome to bring their own alcohol (and take away empties!). We will review the ticketing procedure after this first event.
… and the Village Hall committee are hosting the annual Christmas Community Social Event at the hall on Sunday 2nd December – see the poster below for details. Make a date in your diary and come along if you are free!
The new BBQ/Pizza Oven will be launched in a community event at Liverton Village Hall on Thursday 6th September – please see the hall website homepage for all details and to register an interest in coming (so that we can gauge numbers)! We hope to see a good turn out from the local community!
It has come around again: this Saturday sees the next instalment of the Community Coffee Mornings/Afternoon Teas – this time a Coffee Morning on Aug 11th from 10.30am to midday. Please come along and support it, especially if you haven’t been to one before – come and say hello to the organizers and whichever Hall Committee members are there – we are all friendly folk!
If you have a favourite charity for which you would like to raise money by hosting a similar event then come along and see how it works – the first 6 events have raised more than £1,100 for charity!
We hope to see you there!
Following a break for Christmas and the New Year, Tai Chi classes will be re-starting on Jan 16th 2018 – see below for information:
If you are planning on coming on foot from ‘New Liverton’ to the Hall to cast your vote on Thursday (8th), please be aware that there is a public footpath between ‘Old Liverton’ and ‘New Liverton’ – see below. This is much safer than attempting to walk along Old Liverton Road from Cummings Cross to the Hall, a dangerous stretch of road that has no walkway. Using the safer footpath should add no more than a few minutes to your journey (you come out beside the bottom path entrance to Pottery Yard, with the Hall at the top) – and you will have much nicer views of the countryside!

Our Community Kitchen Enhancement Project was completed during August. This project involved enlargement of the main kitchen hatch (and installation of roller shutters) as well as the purchase of an new 80-piece crockery and cutlery set – with additional mugs and glasses too. The slide-show above displays before-and-after photos of the hatch. This project is part of our drive to increase community use of the hall facilities by making it more attractive for community events. And what good timing: Saturday September 17th sees our first Pop-Up Restaurant, organised by The Seasoned Kitchen!
This work was supported by a generous donation from Dartmoor National Park Authority’s Dartmoor Communities Fund 2015/16.
Sadly, it has been decided that we will not be holding a Summer Event in the Hall this year. This is for two reasons: the lack of available time among the Committee necessary to make the event a success and a recognition of the difficulty in attracting people to one amongst so many competing events and activities held during the Summer Holidays; we hope to take forward the idea of a community ‘bring-and-share food’ social event at another time – maybe during the Winter months.
In the meantime, we will be putting our efforts into ensuring that our exciting November event – a live Salsa band at the Hall! – is a rip-roaring success; see the home page for details.
The hall will be closed for two blocks in August: first we are having the main servery hatch enlarged as well as some external rendering repaired; in the second block the floor is to be repaired and re-varnished. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
